POSITION --

Payroll and Compliance Officer

SUMMARY: Ensure that payroll functions are organized and processed, while making sure all regulations are being met. Work closely with Business Office team to complete responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure that Peru Community Schools is in compliance with state regulations. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):

PAYROLL
1. Perform bi-weekly payroll duties and meet all payroll deadlines.
2. Ensure all employees are paid from the correct accounts and funds.
3. Work with HR to ensure employees have accurate time off records and deductions for payroll.
4. Track and process garnishments through payroll. 
5. Print and mail W-2 forms annually.
6. Provide County Treasurer in June and December with employee listing for delinquent property tax deductions. 
7. Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.

COMPLIANCE OFFICER
1. Assist with collecting bids for procurement of goods and services.
2. Work with the superintendent by reviewing and ensuring compliance of Special Education Records.
3. Review website compliance requirements and assist in preparation of documentation that must be published on school website.
4. Review accounting codes and complete journal entries as needed for grants.
5. Oversight of Title 1,2,3,4 program requirements.
6. Oversight of kitchen service requirements.
7. Train staff on student activity accounts.
8. Records retention for district (training, support, and oversight)
9. Assist with SBOA audit processes to ensure compliance with Indiana state laws.

OVERALL
1. Participate in corporation wide planning to align the use of financial resources to the district goals and objectives. 
2. Demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with all persons with whom he/she comes in contact within Peru Community Schools.
3. Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent and business manager.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time, year-round
                                   Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $24.00
                                   Fringe Benefits as per Board Policies

EVALUATION PROCESS: The payroll and Compliance Officer will be evaluated annually by the Business Manager. This evaluation shall be placed in the personnel file. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors, employees, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to manage data collection through the use of spreadsheets.

QUALIFICATIONS --

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree (preferred in the field of business administration, accounting, finance, or related field) from an accredited educational institution. Experience with responsibilities related to the financial operations of a school corporation, governmental entity, or comparable private sector experience with payroll, audits, and grant management. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively as a team member. Record of regular and timely attendance. 
Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or IASBO Certification
